NGĀ WHAKAMAHUKITANGA | PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Piksies Melody Ltd is seeking performers for an upcoming development season of a full-length new te reo Māori musical by the Tuari Siblings called Whakapaupakihi – the Musical.

 

Rehearsals for this production will be in a wānanga based setting in Te Tairāwhiti across 5x weekends between July – October. There will be a 2 week full-time rehearsal period in the lead-up to production and performance week in October in Gisborne.

 

All roles are fairly remunerated, including travel, accommodation, catering, and per diems where required. 

 

Previous development of Whakapaupakihi - the Musical has been supported by Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival, Te Pou Theatre and Creative New Zealand.

 

This current development season is supported by Manatū Taonga Te Urungi - Innovation Fund.

 

HE KŌRERO MŌ WHAKAPAUPAKIHI | DESCRIPTION OF WHAKAPAUPAKIHI

He whakaari reo Māori, he whakaari waiata hoki a Whakapaupakihi nā te whānau Tuari e kōrero ana mo ngā takahanga a te tokotoru a Iranui. Ko Taua-i-te-rangi tēnā rātou ko Mahaki-ewe-karoro, ko Hauiti.

 

​Written and composed by the Tuari siblings, Whakapaupakihi is a musical adaptation, through the eyes of Te Aitanga a Hauiti descendents, of the feats and history of three eponymous East Coast ancestors known as the three sons of Iranui. They are Taua-i-te-rangi, Mahaki-ewe-karoro and Hauiti.

 

​With a hint of Divergent, and a dash of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Whakapaupakihi, serves to tell the epic story of three brothers who fought against each other to maintain autonomy for their people.

Piksies Melody Ltd is holding 2x musters for performers to attend to be cast in Whakapaupakihi – the Musical.

 

You do NOT need to prepare any items, but please bring:

  • Clothes to move/dance in

  • Water bottle

  • Packed lunch

  • A great vibe
